Great Smoky Mountains National Park Adventure

Elk Viewing at Cataloochee Valley

It's calving season for the Elk population of Cataloochee Valley, at small valley located in The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. They valley is easily accessible from Waynesville, North Carolina and a wonderful experience for our guests here at Brookside Mountain Mist Inn Bed and Breakfast.

The bulls, as seen above, "bugle" to alert their harem to danger or keep them from wandering off too far from the herd. In addition, they bugle in order to let other bulls know they are ready to defend their harem during the mating season in the fall. This is called the rut.
The Tourism Bureau, here in Haywood County, has produced an excellent video about this amazing part of The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You can see this video by clicking on this link:

While here viewing the Elk at Cataloochee, stay at our luxury Smoky Mountain Bed & Breakfast, Brookside Mountain Mist Inn. When you return "home" from your Cataloochee adventure, we'll have fresh baked treats awaiting you for a snack. Enjoy them with a glass of wine from our wine cellar or a fresh brewed cup of coffee from the Keurig in the Guest Service Room.

We just wanted to share one example of the adventures that await you in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Come for the scenery, stay for the adventure! Call us at 828-452-6880 to book your adventure today!

Asheville: Best of in Southern Living

In the latest edition of Southern Living, Asheville was voted #5 for best places in the south to visit and live. Not bad for a city with less than 100k people! Visit the link to the announcement made just recently for 2017 in Southern Living magazine. While visiting Asheville is always fun, it's great to get out of the "big city" and spend some time in the beautiful, pristine mountains of western North Carolina.

Waynesville is just a short 25 minute drive west on I-40 from Asheville. With great restaurants, shops, art galleries and an award-winning theater, Waynesville has more than enough to keep you entertained. In addition, we are located between The Great Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge Mountains for some of the best outdoor activities know to mankind!

Treat yourselves to a stay at our unique bed and breakfast, located just one mile outside of Waynesville's quaint downtown district. Brookside Mountain Mist Inn is distinct in it's approach to B&B's. Our goal is to make our guests feel instantly welcomed and comfortable. Brookside is not your typical B&B in that we are a ranch-style building with many rustic touches among the most modern luxuries in every room. You'll find reclaimed wood and wormy chestnut as well as newly renovated bathrooms and mini-split heating and air conditioning units in each room of the Inn.

Come for the Asheville experience, but stay in the mountains of western North Carolina at Brookside Mountain Mist Inn Bed and Breakfast. Call us at 828-452-6880 to reserve your Smoky Mountain escape!

Cajun Cooking at Brookside

While visiting New Orleans recently, Dina and I took a Cajun and Creole cooking class. What a blast! We learned a lot about New Orleans and how Cajun and Creole cooking originated. In addition, we were given several recipes and learned how to properly prepare this delectable style of food.

The result, we are adding these tasty dishes to our Intimate Dinner for Two menu selection! Now our guests can feel as though they are visiting the French Quarter in New Orleans without ever leaving the state of North Carolina. When booking your next stay at Brookside Mountain Mist Inn Bed and Breakfast, be sure to ask about the newly expanded dinner menu. These dinners are exclusively available to our guests and include a four-course dinner, along with a bottle of wine from our fully stocked wine cellar, all for only $125 per couple.

Come for the scenery, stay for the Cajun cooking, Mon!
