Spring in the Smoky Mountains

Finally! Signs of spring are, literally, springing up everywhere. All of our tulips and daffodils are starting to sprout out of the ground. We even have one daffodil that is showing it's pretty, yellow flower already. There are two other types of flowers beginning to bloom right now, but I'll have to wait a little longer to see what type they are. They are not quite distinguishable yet.

Springtime in the Smoky Mountains is truly breathtaking to behold. Just watching the changes day by day can be so uplifting to your spirits. I have to admit, after three months of colder weather, and browner landscaping, I'm ready for the colors and warmth of spring. Being from Florida, I never really appreciated the seasonal changes as I do now.

Coming soon to the Waynesville, North Carolina area are all the festivals and outdoor activities that make this the perfect weekend getaway from the "big city". From "Melange of the Mountains" to the "Ramp Festival"(a ramp is a wild scallion type vegetable with slight garlic flavor), you're sure to find great food during your mountain escape. For those more adventurous types, don't forget Thunder in the Somkies Harley Rally in late April.

Ghost Town In The Sky, located in Maggie Valley, will be opening again in May with more live music, saloon shows and gunfights. They have also opened their train ride that circles the park and provides panoramic views of the mountains and valleys below. The Cliff Hanger roller coaster literally takes you over the edge of the mountain during this heartstopping ride of a lifetime!

No matter what your interests, you'll find Waynesville at the center of all the activities in western North Carolina. Enjoy your adventure even more while staying at our luxury bed and breakfast, Brookside Mountain Mist Inn. We have new specials listed for Easter and, coming soon, Mother's Day. Let us be "Your Smoky Mountain Escape"!
